Property and construction consultancy Acies has announced its new appointment as civil and structural engineers for the £15m redevelopment of Digbeth Coach Station. Property and construction consultancy Acies has announced its new appointment as civil and structural engineers for the £15m redevelopment of Digbeth Coach Station. Working in conjunction with National Express, contractor Ashford Construction, Project Manager Goring Berry and architects SBS, Acies will provide vital support for the major redevelopment scheme which will comprise; an 86,000 sq ft glass concourse, 93,000 sq ft temperature controlled waiting area, 4,000 sq ft of retail space and 93,000 sq ft of new office space. The year long project, which will see the coach station move back from its temporary home on Oxford Street to the redeveloped site on Bradford Street, the scheme received planning permission earlier this year and work is due to commence on the 4th August this year. Karl Hill, partner at Acies stated: “The project is a major investment for Birmingham, and the innovative design will reflect the vibrancy of the city.” The scheme is the first project of its kind is to be put forward for a British Environmental standard (BREEAM) rating and is expected to receive the rating of excellence. It will include features such as green roofing, surface water attenuation, re-use of demolition materials from the previous development and rain water harvesting systems. Karl Hill continued: “Sustainability is key to the design of the building and to be recognised for a BREEAM rating is a huge achievement to all partners involved.” Stuart Parker, Director of Property at National Express commented; “Understanding a project of this magnitude we needed the support of a knowledgeable and experienced company such as Acies. Digbeth coach station incorporates designs which will fit comfortably with the wider regeneration objective, while emphasising on providing customers with the best possible travel experience.”
